10×18 sheds are a medium size shed choice. At 180 square feet, these sheds can fit a lawn tractor, snowblower, and a few bikes. You’ll have space left over for some box storage as well.

The classic shed is similar to the ranch shed but features a steeper roof pitch. This design gives the shed a beautiful profile and allows for additional space for a loft or a roof dormer, which allows more natural light. The classic shed is the perfect platform for she sheds, home art studios, hobby sheds and more.
High barn sheds are a great choice for maximizing space in your 10×18 shed. With a wall height of 75″, each high barn shed comes with a loft as a standard feature and the option to add a second one. If you need a shed that gives you the maximum amount of storage for its size, this is the one.
The low barn shed has the same style profile of the high barn but with lower sidewalls. This shed is a great choice for storing all your gardening tools in a compact space for a great price.
The quaker shed is a beautiful A-frame shed with an offset roofline, giving extra overhang on the front of the building. This is a unique design profile that will give your backyard an instant style upgrade.
The studio, or modern shed, features a single-slope roof. It’s a perfect choice for those who prefer a modern look and is great for specialized uses like backyard offices, man caves, art studios, she sheds, and more!
Generally speaking, you should have a permit to install a 10×18 shed. Since a 10×18 shed is over 180 square feet, it will require a permit in most locations. However, it’s important to check with the local government to confirm any specific regulations or requirements before installing a shed of any size.
If you live in North Dakota, check out our guide to shed permits in North Dakota.
A 10×18 shed foundation typically requires approximately 3 cubic yards of gravel. Since we recommend making your foundation a foot longer and wider than the shed on all sides, you will need a pad that measures 12×20. We also recommend a depth of at least 4″.
Please note that these calculations will only work if your site is level. If you are installing your shed on a slope, more gravel will be required. For more site prep information, check out our site prep page.
The total footprint of a 10×18 shed is 180 square feet. However, it’s important to note that the usable interior space will be slightly less than this due to the thickness of the walls.
To calculate the usable floor space, subtract approximately 5″ from each side of the interior dimensions. This accounts for the wall studs (3.5″) and the sheathing and siding on the outside (up to 1.5″).
Thus, to perform the calculation, you should multiply 9 feet 7 inches by 17 feet 7 inches, yielding an estimated interior space of approximately 153.5 square feet.
