The 8×10 shed size is a popular choice for those seeking a compact and convenient storage solution. Despite its smaller dimensions, this shed provides ample space for your storage needs while taking up minimal space in your backyard. It’s the perfect option for homeowners with limited outdoor space. Due to their small size, 8×10 sheds often do not require a permit.
An 8×10 Ranch shed is a great choice for meeting your basic backyard storage requirements. This A-frame design showcases sleek and elegant lines that will enhance the aesthetics of any backyard. Moreover, the interior of the shed can be easily customized to cater to all your storage needs.
The Classic shed is similar to the ranch shed in many ways, but comes with a steeper roof pitch that gives it a unique profile. This roof design also allows there to be an added dormer or interior loft area. Features like this make the classic shed the perfect shed for a conversion into a she shed or home office.
The 8×10 Economy shed is our most budget-friendly shed option. Although it doesn’t include all the premium features of our main sheds, it’s still built with durability as priority. For more info about our Economy sheds, visit our dedicated Economy sheds page.
You most likely will not need a permit for an 8×10 shed. Most municipalities require you to have a permit for your shed only if it’s over 120 square feet and an 8×10 shed is only 80 square feet. However, it’s always good to check with your local government before building or installing a shed.
If you live in North Dakota, please check out our shed permit guide for that state.
An 8×10 shed foundation typically requires approximately 1.3 cubic yards of gravel. Since we recommend making your foundation a foot longer and wider than the shed on all sides, you will need a pad that measures 9×11. We also recommend a depth of at least 4″.
These calculations assume that your site is level. If you are installing the shed on a slope, you may need more gravel. For more information on site preparation, please refer to our site prep page.
The total footprint of an 8×10 shed is 80 square feet. However, it’s important to note that the usable interior space will be slightly less than this due to the thickness of the walls.
To calculate the usable floor space, subtract approximately 5″ from each side of the interior dimensions. This accounts for the wall studs (3.5″) and the sheathing and siding on the outside (up to 1.5″).
Thus, to perform the calculation you should multiply 7 feet 7 inches by 9 feet 7 inches, yielding an estimated interior space of approximately 63.5 square feet.
